Reforestation

of Northern

Khentii

a mongolian community project supported by volunteer tourism

OUR PARTNER NGOs:

Several NGOs have been instrumental in the creation of Reforestation of Northern Khentii or are contributing resources and guidance to our project. We would like to recognize the support of the following organizations:

ENLIGHTENMENT INFORMAL EDUCATION CENTER:

We are very pleased to receive the support of Umnudelger's adult and casual education center, which is a local NGO that has taken our project under its wing. The Enlightenment Center is devoted to helping adults complete their high school education as well as providing classes not usually offered in school, for both enrichment and career training.

Enlightenment Center.

The RNK project is graciously receiving the benefits of the Center's staff and infrastructure. Additionally, this partnership will make it possible to create an ecological education program in our community, as many of our project staff are also associated with the Enlightenment Center and with the local school.

VOLUNTEER TOURISM:

The RNK project was inspired by the work of the Cultural Restoration Tourism Project, which is based in San Francisco, California and provides service vacations to foreigners in order to fund their programs. CRTP had worked in Khentii on the reconstruction of Baldan Baraivun monastery until 2005, and they are currently implementing a new restoration project in Nepal.

Two of our project founders have worked for CRTP, from the perspective of a Mongolian staff member (Bogi) and that of a foreign volunteer tourist (Barbara). They were both intrigued by CRTP's unique funding model and they were thrilled at the possibilities of true cultural exchange that this type of tourism invites. We are very excited to implement many of CRTP's ideas and principles in shaping Reforestation of Northern Khentii, and we thank the people of CRTP for their guidance and support.
